I am a Trained Bradley Educator living and working in the New York birth community, and mothering in Inwood. (“Upstate Manhattan” as it were.)
Currently a DONA trained Birth and Postpartum Doula, I see birth education and support as the gateways to the best possible beginning for your child and family. At just a year of attending births, I have a wide range of experiences to draw from and am learning more everyday from the amazing mothers and families I meet. I’m also trained as HypnoBirthing Labor Support and in Neonatal Resuscitation, as I believe all support people attending births should have a wide range of tools to offer.
Further, I’m a Certified Lactation Counselor with a love of lactation, on my path to one day be an IBCLC. Did I mention I’m into all things birthy?
My goal is to support labor education, not merely preparation. I believe at the heart of every mother is someone who wants to do the absolute best for their child. Education helps us make the decisions that facilitate that.
I have a B.A. from the University of Texas in Arlington in Interior Design from the School of Architecture. In addition to teaching childbirth classes, attending births as a doula, and helping encourage women to breastfeed, I raise my son . . . and have an expected new addition on the way, due late June!!

Gillian is great! She is so supportive on many levels and made the birth experience less anxiety provoking for me. And she was so sweet to emotional support me those first couple days after birth with breastfeeding. I think Gillian is wonderful and highly recommend her to anyone. Feel free to email me if you want to know more about my experience: katiepotocnik@gmail.com.
